Dear Joss, I’m heartbroken for the loss of your beautiful Cate. We have shared some fun times over the years during my visits to Dunedin, with Jules & Jay. The last time being the opening of Hutch in May of 2025, a night that lives fondly in my memory.
A truly magnetic woman, my thoughts are with you, Maggie & Cate’s wider community.
Arohanui,
Tara

Cate, you were a tour de force. A intellectual power house, creator, connector, kind soul. You loved and were loved deeply. It was always so special to catch up through the years. Your spirit will live on in all those you have touched with your bright and playful light. Mate atu he tēte kura, ka ara atu he tēte kura. My heart breaks for your dear brother James, your lover Joss and your precious daughter Maggie and all your wider whanau and friends. Gone much to soon from the physical world. May you fly to the stars and shine down on us. Arohanui gurl.

We were so lucky to have spent time with Cate on a few occasions throughout the years. We met in moments of both mourning and celebration, all of which remain unforgettable. Cate was fully there with her sweet smile and laughter, care and love.
She will always be in our hearts remembered in this way.
We send big hug to you James, Joss and Maggie.

Dear Joss, dearest Maggie… there are no words to express what I feel. And I am at the other side of the planet; don’t even wanna think (or imagine to feel) about how you must feel!
She truly was and will be one of the most special people i have ever met. And I can tell you… I’ve met a hellofalot!
And no, it’s not some cliché you’re ‘supposed to say’ in moments like this.
If I only could be there only for one short moment, to hold you both… to share some tears, to memorize your beautiful and precious Cate… or to be silent… it would be so so good.
But we know and understand … simply not possible!
So I hold you -virtually, and on a distance…
And wish you the most beautiful, precious, warm en memorable goodbye-ceremony you could have.
And maybe… we have the time to chat in the near future!
Love you both,,,
Papa Rob

E taku hoa kua hinga - To my dear friend who has fallen.
Thank you for choosing to share 2019 with myself and your classmates on Te Ara Reo Māori @ Te Wānanga o Aotearoa. Will treasure the memories of that night you and Josh invited me to your house in Port Chalmers. So wish I could be there in person. I am still dealing with the loss of my sister last year. Grief is the love you once had for a loved one that suddenly has nowhere to go. Feeling them all around you but not being able to see or hear them anymore.
Arohanui ki a kōrua ko tāu tamaiti Josh.

So so sad to hear of Cate’s passing. I will always think of her as a happy face, full of fun and adventure, and her positive approach to life. That big personality will be with her daughter Maggie who was the light of her life. Always remembered with love. Thoughts with Joss and James. May she rest in peace………

My love and awhi to all of Cate’s whānau and friends.
Although I haven’t seen Cate for a few years, due to distance and life taking us in different directions, I have such fabulous memories of the times we shared in our younger days—and what a ride it was! Cate was always a queen, and the party was wherever she was.
There were plenty of nights of mischief, too much wine and a few indulgences… some stories perhaps best left between those who were there! We had so much fun, and those memories will always make me smile!
I admired Cate’s sharp mind, her wicked wit, her love of the arts and her seemingly endless energy. I’m grateful to have known her and shared a little of that wonderful, colourful life that was Cate.
Sending heartfelt condolences and especially big love to Maggie, Joss and James.
Rest in love, Cate. Always a queen. ❤️
