One of nature's Gentleman was Cliff. A kind, generous, friendly and humorous man, we used to joke about being 'fellow Fellows' of St. Margaret's College, an honour he earned partly by having students who were spending a lonely Christmas away from family round to his place ao they would not be alone. I think Marilou Scott has said it better than I can . . .

We are deeply saddened to hear about the passing of your wonderful father, Cliff. Cliff was an incredibly special person who made a profound impact on my life. When I first arrived as a newcomer to New Zealand, his warmth and openness made all the difference. He truly embraced me and my family, welcoming us into his own family with open arms—especially during the Christmas seasons, which he made so bright and memorable for us. I will never forget his kindness, his deep compassion, and the laughter he brought into every room. He was a remarkable man who made the world a warmer place, and his generous spirit will never be forgotten.

I had the great privilege of knowing Cliff most of my life - I hung out at Myrtle Bank a lot with Cate during our teenage years. Cliff was always the most gentle, kind man with a great sense of humour and GIANT HANDS. Practical faming man, nothing was a problem. A true good sort. You will be missed. You had a long good life with many ups and downs and you navigated it all beautifully. Now you are with Dave and I hope you two are having a great old chat and catch up together. Much love to the family.
