HAMMOND-TOOKE, Graeme David - Retired Dunedin Hospital Neurologist and Otago Medical School Associate Professor, peacefully, after a series of strokes, on October 25, 2026; aged 76 years.
Much loved husband of Jill for 47 years, father of Cally and her partner Brendan, Richard Aspinall and his partner Sophie, and grandsons Theodore, and Rafferty (Melbourne).  Graeme will also be much missed by his only brother Ricky, and his nieces and nephews.

A lifelong learner and academic (MB BCH, FRNZCP, MSc (London), and Phd (University of the Witwatersrand)), Graeme loved all music from Opera (especially Wagner) to rock and classical guitar and enjoyed composing.  He was a member of the Dunedin City Choir for more than 20 years, until his first stroke 2 years ago.  He remained a kind, polite man, with an innate sense of duty and fairness, and appreciated the wonderful care provided over the past 10 months by the dedicated staff at Redroofs Lifecare, especially when they fed him ice-cream.

A Memorial Service for Graeme will be held in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, at 11am on Saturday October 31.   In lieu of flowers, donations to the Neurological Foundation of New Zealand would be appreciated and may be left at the service.
Messages to J McIlraith, PO Box 10068, Halfway Bush, Dunedin 9042 or via the tab below where you will also find the Livestream and Donations links.

Sorry to hear about your loss. He was a good doctor. He always would see if you were ok even though he didn’t need to. My thoughts are with you. From a former patient. Rebecca

A very sad loss not only for you Jill but for family and friends. It was a privilege to have met with Graeme a few times over the last few years. He really had a lot of fun at our koeksister event in February 2015 . Very brave man to turn up with so many formidable ladies. My thoughts are with you.
