It is with heavy hearts that we, the Ongoua & Metuatai family announce the passing of our Mama Vaine Tutai Metuatai (Mama Vai), who passed peacefully on the 16th August 2025 at Dunedin Hospital, aged 83.

She was the heart of our family - strong, loving and full of wisdom. Her strength and faith carried her through every challenge, and her love will continue to guide us.

Loved wife of the late Metuatai Ongoua.

Devoted mother to Terepai & Maara Metuatai, Rouruina & George Taraare, Tutai Metuatai, Tupopongi & Carmina Metuatai, the late Matapurotu Metuatai, Vaike & Virginia Ongoua, Metuatai Metuatai, Tuaongo Teremate, Matakeua Rouvi, Vainepuapii Aratangi, Jimmy Rouvi, Ngatamaine Henry & Toko Ongoua.

Treasured Nana, leaving behind two generations of grandchildren.

For those wanting to pay their respects, you are welcome to visit Mama at 95 Clermiston Ave, Corstorphine, where she will be resting from Monday afternoon, 18 August until her funeral service.
