O'DWYER, Lydia -

On the morning of Monday July 21, 2025, this unique, loving, and fiercely smart force of nature, passed away at Dunedin Hospital, due to complications with her heart; aged 66 years.

Originally from Liverpool, Lydia spent most of her life in Aotearoa New Zealand. She walked an unconventional, spiritual path through Subud and found deep connection and meaning in the recovery whānau, where sobriety and service to others were central to her life.

Lydia worked as a psychotherapist and addiction specialist for more than three decades, including 16 years at Moana House. She helped countless people. She was wise, unflappable, and guided by the philosophy: "take it a day at a time."

She was a voracious reader, an animal lover, and a deeply loved daughter, sister, wife, mother, Nana and friend. Lydia was the daughter of Bill and the late Pat, sister to Bill, and Jac, wife of Mauraka, and an incredible mother to Feilidh, Nell and Korako. She was an awesome Nana to Dasha; Olympia, and Atreus, and a kind and loyal friend to many.

She will be deeply missed.

Join us in celebrating Lydia's life in Hope and Sons Chapel, 523 Andersons Bay Road, at 10am on Saturday July 26 followed by private interment.

Any koha towards funeral costs would be greatly appreciated.
