4 Personalised Funeral – Cremation The family chose a venue for the funeral that best suited them and their wishes, they personalised and made decisions to make the service unique to their family. From $15,638 incl gst

Scenario One – HOPES CHAPEL

The family chose the Hope and Sons Chapel, as it has built in livestreaming, this is especially important as they have some family overseas that they want to share the celebration with. They requested a celebrant to lead the service and a personalised service sheet and slideshow celebrating their loved one’s life, was prepared. A plain casket was selected as the family wanted the grandchildren to write messages and do drawings over the wood, making it one-of-a-kind. Hope and Sons liaised with a florist so that the casket was adorned with flowers, and arrangements were made for a newspaper notice to be inserted in the local paper, and refreshments for guests afterward. Following the service, farewells were bid before the hearse departed for the crematorium.

Scenario Two – CHURCH

The family opted for a Church Service/Mass led by their Priest, reflecting their Catholic faith. A white-painted casket with a colourful floral spray was chosen, and Hope and Sons helped design a slideshow and service sheet that was unique to their loved ones. The family chose the hymns, and the order for the service with the Priest. Hope and Sons assisted the family with putting notices in the local paper, and organised refreshments in the Church Hall following the service. After the cremation, the family took the ashes home they would decide on the best next steps in the future.

Scenario Three – OTHER VENUE

The family knew that their dad had a love of golf, so they wanted to choose a venue that was fitting for him. They went around several places recommended by Hope and Sons, as well as some they knew of themselves, and ended up choosing the Otago Golf Club. Hope and Sons then assisted the family by liaising with the venue, they organised the seating/set up, took the Hope and Sons external sound system, and hired a TV screen for the slideshow to be played on. The family chose a modest floral spray, leaving room for his golf shoes, cap, golf club, and hole in one trophy to be placed on the casket at the front of the room. They had a friend that they wanted to lead the service, Hope and Sons assisted the friend with any questions they had and helped them shape a service fitting for the family.

Scenario ONE – EXISTING Plot

The family was very traditional and as part of their faith, burial is the recognised option. There are many family members already buried at the cemetery, and there is a plot already purchased for the family member that has died. The family had a service at Hope and Sons Chapel; they had a celebrant lead the service and worked with Hope and Sons to craft a service sheet and slideshow that was fitting for their loved one. A newspaper notice was inserted into the local paper and a flax/native floral arrangement was selected as family described that flowers didn’t really fit his personality. Following the service the family stayed to have a cuppa and a sandwich with guests, before they all headed off to the cemetery. On arrival at the cemetery Hope and Sons liaised with the family as well as the cemetery staff to make sure that the burial was completed.

Scenario TWO – New Plot

The family chose the Hope and Sons Chapel, as the location was close to the family home and the Dunedin Cemetery. They requested a celebrant to lead the service and crafted a unique way of sharing the family stories throughout the service. A service sheet and slideshow celebrating their loved one’s life, was prepared. A hickory-coloured casket adorned with white and yellow flowers was selected, arrangements were made for a newspaper notice to be placed in the local newspaper. The family thought it was really important to reconnect with all those attending the service, so they wanted to share refreshments with guests following the service. Once the refreshments were finished the family and friends accompanied the hearse to the Dunedin Cemetery, Hope and Sons knew how important the family home was, so on their way to the cemetery they made a special trip past the family home, pausing outside for respect before continuing to the final resting place. On arrival at the cemetery Hope and Sons liaised with the family as well as the cemetery staff to make sure that the burial was completed.
